  1. Here is the site.

    http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp...

If you are on a cruise ship, you do not need a passport until next year.  However, if something happens and you had to depart and fly home, you would need a passport.

It does however make it much easier on your embark/debark if you have it.  If you have time before your cruise, I'd go ahead and get it.  Come December the rush is going to be bad and make the wait a lot longer.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  2. I would get one even if we didn't need it.

I mean, do you really want to be stuck in Mexico (or any other country) without a passport?

Best to cover yourself and get a passport.

  3. i think so, so i would that it just in case

  4. No, you do not need a Passport to get back into the US (the Passport is to get back into the US, NOT into Mexico) on a cruise line until January 2008. HOWEVER, you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate as a means of showing citizenship to Immigration.

Keep in mind that this is just the new Immigration law for sea travel, NOT air travel. So if something happens that you need to fly back to the US from Mexico while on the cruise, you'll have problems.

It is "recommended" that you have a Passport but not required. Part of this is what I term as "waved through" Immigration vs. "let's have a talk" Immigration when you get back and go through the Immigration line. If you have a Passport, you hold it up to show and you get waved through. If not, you usually (truth of facts: usually, but not always) get put over to a line or stopped for the "let's have a talk and question and answer session" to get through the check.

  5. Honestly, you should have a passport anytime you leave the continental United States, You will avoid any possible problems. You may not need it, but if you do you'll be thankful. I think they're good for quite a few years too, so may as well get one. Laws will probly change soon anyway, then you'll have to get one.

  6. Not at this time, but you will next January.  However it's best if you have one.

I just came from a cruise in Mexico.  Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.  It was GREAT!!!

  7. Not until January 2009. I am going on a cruise in May to Mexico and for cruise ship passengers it is not required until 2009. Traveling any other way it is required.

  8. YES ~  you must have the cruise line will scan it.
