Do you need a passport to cross the border from Mexico to the US?

I heard a law was going to require a passport by jan 08 but am not sure where to verify this law. I will be traveling by land. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

  1. Yes you do need a passport to enter or leave mexico.


  2. Passports are NOT needed for LAND travel between the U.S. and Mexico yet...the date has not yet been set.  seee site below and read top half of page for current info.

  3. Ask the 12 or so million that swan the river or climbed the fence if they had a passport.

      But to answer your question, as I understand it, they are going to demand that go into effect on the Canadian border first.  Why that, I have no idea, but that was on TV just last week, with no specifics as to date or what type of enforcement would be involved.

  4. they keep extending the deadline saying they would have some type of border crossing card or something

    but I wouldn't hold my breath (else I would be dead waiting for it

    so the safest best is to get a passport -as the saying goes

    its better to need it and have it then need it and not have it

    (at lest it couldn't hurt!) - it might even speed the crossing on the way back to the US)

    and besides if you have to fly (in the US it makes for great

    photo ID as well)
