Do you need a passport to drive from Michigan to Canada?

I need to know if you need a passport to drive through the tunnel FROM Michigan TO Canada as of September 2008. Or do you only need your ID and birth certificate? Thank you!

  1. No you do not need a passport for land travel between Canada and the US, all you require is your original birth certificate and your government issued photo id( ex drivers license).

    On June 1, 2009 you will need a passport regardless of your mode of travel. Right now you need your passport for air travel only.
