Do you need a passport to drive in to Mexico and drive back out?

I want to go to mexico in a couple weeks and im not sure as to whether i need a passport or not. Can somebody provide me with a legit answer please???

  1. Mac's answer is correct; just wanted to give you the confirmation link:

    and mention that you will need government ID (driver's license) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate).


  2. You do not need a passport by land or by sea until June 1, 2009.  There are adverts in our papers (Canadian) reminding Canadians to avoid the rush and get their passports/renewals early, well before the Jun 1, 2099 deadline for travel to the USA.

  3. you DON'T need a passport when DRIVING over the boarder... you only need a passport when you fly.

    that will change June 09 though when you will need a passport when driving, but for now NO PASSPORT for DRIVING

    YES PASSPORT for FLYING
