  1. Depending on the type of travel you may, or may not, require a passport.  You do not require a passport to travel from the US to Canada and back if you are travelling by land or sea.  If you have one of course that is the best form of ID.  Otherwise you require government issued photo ID and and official birth certificate.  This will get you into Canada and back into the US.

If you are travelling by air technically you do not require a passport to fly into Canada.  However be aware that airlines can require this and can refuse you boarding rights if you do not have it.  Airlines can require ID in excess of government regulations to meet their own security needs.

Travellers will require a passport or other approved form of ID (passport card, ehanced drivers license, etc.) by 2009 with implementation possibly as early as June 1, 2009.

  2. pros-free health care, no guns, casual folks, lots of jobs, last year's surplus was 7 billion and the world's second largest supply of OIL, good for 300 years, expensive though it may be.

Cons-cold in winter, terrible long distances between friends (sometimes 3000 miles from Vancouver to St. Johns.)

  3. It certainly makes your processing easier and faster, but you may NOT require a passport. That is, if you are arriving by LAND or SEA, it is still not a requirement. All you need is a piece of photo ID and something that shows your nationality. For example, I used my driver's license and birth certificate the last time I crossed the border. However, next time I will use the passport that I just got.

Starting June 1st, 2009, you will need a passport whether you go by air, land or sea. Currently, the passport requirement is only by air.

That gives you a bit more than a year to get the passport. And be thankful that American passports are good for ten years. Canadians have to renew theirs every five years, and pay another $80+ for it...

  4. You may or may not need a passport depending on how you enter Canada. You are required to hold a valid passport if you travel by AIR. You don't need a passport when traveling by "LAND or SEA" (TILL JUNE 2009) You need a government issued photo ID such as a driver's license and birth certificate.

  5. No you do Not. You need PHOTOI.D and a birth certificate to come by sea or land.

If you fly you need one to leave the U.S.

  6. Yes.

  7. Whether you do or not is immaterial as it simply makes the crossing so much easier.

  8. Yes you do EH!
