I am going to Niagra Falls and I am coming from the US. I heard that you don't need a passport if you are ONLY going to Niagra Falls for one day. So is this true? I really don't think so I read this on the web.

  1. How long you spend in Canada, or where you go in Canada do NOT matter.  Passports are NOT needed for LAND travel to Canada until June 1, 2009.  Right now , you need a birth certificate and photo I.D.  See site below to read the law for yourself.

  2. If you cross the border by land you don't need a passport - two other pieces of government ID will be okay.

Passports are going to be required soon though and are the best/most important piece of ID for any traveller.

  3. You do not need a passport YET, but will in the very near future. All that is required is photo ID, and something government issue to back that up, such as birth certificate, or your version of a social insurance card.
