I'm planning on going to canada with my aunt and uncle and cousin for the weekend and i was wondering if i need a passport if i drive up there with them or can i just use my birth certificate and a legitimate letter from my mom? (saying I'm allowed to go with them and they aren't stealing me or something. Lol.) By the way im only fourteen so would that also make a difference??

  1. Hi, I live in NY right by the Canadian border. I am not a minor. The law here that they just recently made is that you need either a passport OR a birth certificate (not a copy, the real thing) to enter Canada. A letter from your parents would be good to have also since you are a minor. Make sure they are available by telephone too just in case the officer wants to call.

But to answer your question a birth certificate would be fine.

  2. im not sure i heard you now need a passport to go there but i could be totally wrong

  3. You need legal picture ID, plus what you already have.

  4. Whether driving or not, you need US Passport or Certificate of birth. You don't need visa.

  5. I've gone to Canada and I'm a minor, I don't remember it really good because it wasn't really important to pay attention too, but I don't think you need a passport just a verification. But I would take one just in case.
