i have read other questions but they seem a little outdated. Has anyone had recent experience while entering in Canada if a passport is needed or not. I am thinking of passing through Washington. I have a passport but my wife hasn't got one yet, and applying for one takes a long time. I know about the travel website, but it says "may need a passport while traveling." "may" doesn't make it clear.

  1. Depends on how you enter Canada. You are required to hold a valid passport if you travel by AIR. You don't need a passport when traveling by "LAND or SEA" (TILL JUNE 2009) You need a government issued photo ID such as a driver's license and birth certificate.
