  1. YES you need a passport to go to Ireland.

It's another country and you need a passport to go into another country.

    Common sense people.. lol.

  2. Not officially, however airlines and ferry companies now ask for photo ID which is basically a passport or photo driving licence.

  3. haha why, do you want to escape the country?!?!

  4. It really depends

  5. You need a passport for international travel. Check out sites on the web-but I wouldn't travel without one

  6. No, your boyfriend can't enter the Republic of Ireland on just a provisional licence, as he's from Iran he will need a visa to enter the Republic.

I don't know what your boyfriend's story is but he would also need a visa to enter the UK and documentation to remain in the country so he must have a passport or some type of documentation.

Even if he has a visa for the UK, he will still need to apply for a visa to the Republic of Ireland

If he has a valid visa for the UK, you could both visit Northern Ireland without any hassle

As a British citizen you need to carry some form of ID when you travel between the Republic of Ireland and the UK, airlines will usually insist on either a driver's licence (with photo) or a passport.  Your boyfriend will have to present a passport with a valid visa.

  7. For the moment (it is likely that rules will change in 2009) British and Irish citizens do NOT need a passport to travel between the two countries (although airlines may insist on seeing a passport before letting you on the plane). Your Iranian boyfriend most certainly DOES need a passport.

Those who say that you always need a passport to cross the border are simply showing a profound ignorance of the history of the two countries - since the south of Ireland achieved independence in 1922 it has NEVER been necessary for citizens of the two countries to show a passport to cross the border, and it's only the current "war on terrorism" panic which is making them think of changing the rules now.

  8. Phone the Irish Embassy or Consulate in the UK and ask them to be sure. I think your Iranian boyfriend will need a passport.

  9. yes

  10. YOU DO NEED A PASSPORT TO GO TO SOUTHERN IRELAND IF YOU FLY THERE BUT IF YOU SAIL YOU DONT NEED ONE

  11. Yeah, you never used to have to have one, but now you do..

    Definitely yes :)

  12. As he is not a  British citizen  he would need a passport.

  13. From Duck  yes i think you do ring airport or ferry company

    they should help.

  14. It is different depending who you fly with. if you fly with Ryanair then you will definately need a passport. Dependent on others airlines I would ask the airline if they like you to have a passport or not. I'M not 100% sure but i think your friend will not get in without a passport.

  15. Of course he will need a passport to enter any country !Especially from Iran the way things are. I am surprised he is outside his country now without a passport.!

  16. If you go to Northern Ireland you don't, ai its still in Britain, if you go out of Northern Ireland you do as its then another country! :)

  17. if you are british and live in britain - you need a passport for southern ireland but you donot need one for northern ireland.

you need photo id for northern though - like drivers liscence

  18. No. You dont need one for Scotland or Wales do you? Its just the same.

  19. Depends where you live, if you are in England, then no as it's still Great Brittain

  20. unfortunately you need a passport to any where outside the country even Hawaiii

  21. If you are in the UK you don't you just need a form of Photo ID to prove who you are. A driver's lisence should do it or wel......a passport lol but it's not required.

  22. No it is not the republic

The Republic is a different Country For which you will neeed a passport

Northern Ireland is part of GB you can visit but you need photo ID to book a plane seat

  23. I have heard yes and no

Better to have one just in-case.

  24. yes 100% no matter where you are coming from, better safe than sorry x
