  1. If you are flying then yes you do.

  2. If you are a US citizen NO passport is needed to fly to the US Virgin islands.

Traveling to and from U.S. Territories

U.S. Citizens traveling to and returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the U.S. territory and do not need to present a passport.

    U.S. territories include:

    ▪ American Samoa

    ▪ Guam

    ▪ Northern Mariana Islands

    ▪ Puerto Rico

    ▪ Swains Island

    ▪ U.S. Virgin Islands

You would fly to St Thomas from San Juan and take a ferry from St Thomas to St John. No airport on St John. No private air strip either. There is a helicopter pad on the property of Caneel Bay Resort on St John.)

  3. No.  Both islands are US territories.  But you would if you went to the British Virgin Islands, from either San Juan or St John.

Note:  ND's answer is certainly misleading, as there is no commercial airline traffic to St John from anywhere; however there MAY be a "landing strip" for private aircraft, and nearly anyone who fly there would be either a very rich person who had his own private plane, or chartered one, would be known by the Customs Agents, so they most likely would not bother them.  The only remaining issue is when a private, unknown aircraft landed in St John, and the Customs Agents would check to see if it was a drug smuggler.  If you were rich, you would already know this.  If you were a drug smuggler, you would also already know this.  And since you're neither, ND's answer, while strictly speaking has the possibility of being correct in the extremely rare instance where you are on a lost  plane, or in a small, private plane making an emergency landing;  is VERY MISLEADING.  In my opinion, it's  unfortunate that ND is causing such confusion on Yahoo Answers.

  4. No passport needed at all thru SJU to STT.  Ferry to STJ.

Helipad also open up at the clinic for private chartered flights.

  5. Well, those are both US territories.  However, the passport laws are in flux and you may need a passport if you are flying.  Check the State Department website for info on the latest regarding passport laws.  Best bet is to go ahead and get one.
