  1. It is very very highly recommended that you do but due to the number of passporst being requested they had to push back the date once again. I think the date is now in Mid June sometime. If you cant get a passport before your cruise because they usually take 6 weeks or more, then your ORIGINAL birth certificate with the raised seal, no photocopies, and they are only $10 if you have to get a new one, a valid ID, marriage certificate if that applies, and social security number. Other then that you're good. Make sure you place all important documents in your carry on because you wont be able to get to your bag until that night.

  2. you do not need a passport at this time and they have not given a date when it will  be needed for cruise travel as of yet but  they will have a Pass Card for land and sea travel

    this link should help

    http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_car...

and if you do not have what you need to get back in the US they will not let you leave

  3. not yet next year for sure

    it depends on when going

  4. As far as I know it is not yet required...however it is highly recommended to bring a passport. It makes cruise travel a whole lot easier getting both on and off of the ship. Also helps and makes it easier to get back on the ship on any stops you may make. If you dont carry a passport you have to have both an id and a birth certificate and that is just alot more of a hassel to deal with.

  5. Simple answer is no for now. The complex answer is covered by everyone else but as early as this summer the new passport restrictions will be in full swing which then will be a yes.

So for right this moment you do not need a passport but that will, more likely than not, change this summer.

  6. Passports are not needed for SEA travel to Mexico at this time.  That requirement will go into effect at a "later" date that has not yet been set, but will be after next summer, and maye as late as 2009.   See website below and read top half of page carefully for current info.  you can check this site from time to time as new info is always posted here first.  Some cruise lines want passengers to have passports , so it is wise to call them and ask their policy.  If you are cruising before net fall, you should be safe without a passport.  see 2nd site for all passport application info if you need that.

  7. You do not need a passport to get into Mexico, but you will need a passport to get back into the us as explained below.

The Federal agencies responsible for passport rules will issue new rules this year (2008) in a few months which are supposed to require ALL passengers on cruise ships to have a passport to reenter the US after a cruise.  No official date has been set but its been reported as "as early as the summer of 2008".

All cruise lines are aware of this change and are all but requiring all passengers to get/have a passport.  This they recommend because of the new requirement coming soon and also because if you miss a flight or connection and do not get to the departure port in time to board the ship, you will not be able to fly to the next port city to meet the ship; AND, if you get sick while on the cruise, or the cruise ship has a problem and cannot return you to a US port then you will have to fly home.  You will need a passport to fly home.

If you look at the web site for whatever cruise line you will be going on there will be a notice specifically addressing passports and what I have said is essentially what will be covered.

A passport will cost you $97. and it will take  4 to 6 weeks for the passport office to process your application.  Here's the web site with all of the information:
