  1. NOT IF YOU ARE A US CITIZEN.  The US VI is a part of the UNITED STATES and travel there by air or cruise ship does NOT require a passport.  Same as with Puerto Rico,.

    Travel to the British VI's and other islands will require a passport for reentry into the US in a few months when the Federal agencies responsible for immigration and homeland security issue final rules.

  2. You may not need one to get to the USVI, but you WILL NEED A PASSPORT TO GET BACK INTO THE UNITED STATES. So you have to have one anyway, unless your just planning on staying in the USVI.

    So yes you can go without one but you still have to have a passport if you are planning on coming back to the USA.

  3. YES. All international travel requires a passport especially if travelling from the US and Canada. Regardless of if you are a US Citizen, you will be required to have a valid passport. Keep in mind as well that you will not be issued a boarding pass without presenting your passport.

  4. Traveling to and from U.S. Territories

    U.S. Citizens traveling to and returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the U.S. territory and do not need to present a passport.

    U.S. territories include:

    ▪ American Samoa

    ▪ Guam

    ▪ NorthMariana Islands

    ▪ Puerto Rico

    ▪ Swains Island

    ▪ U.S. Virgin Islands

    Enjoy)

  5. Not if you are traveling there nonstop on a US airline from the United States.

  6. star 25 did not read her link:

    here it is:

    "he following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

        * JANUARY 31, 2008

          U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time.

        * LATER

          At a later date, to be determined, the departments will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have either a U.S. passport; a U.S. passport card; a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, FAST, or SENTRI; a valid Merchant Mariner Document (MMD) when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or a valid U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders.

    Note: The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory. "

    So, if you are a US citizen and traveling directly from the mainland to  the Virgins you DO NOT NEED A PASSPORT because the US Virgin Islands are US.........

    Now CHECK YOUR AIRLINE!!! Some airlines require passports on the lame excuse that the plane might be diverted....
