Do you need a passport to travel from Cardiff to Belfast?

I am planning a surprise for my B/f coz he has never flown, and doesnt have a passport... Does he need one? Planning on travelling with BMI baby!!

  1. no! you're traveling domestic. not international. just bring an id card, can be anything, well, just bring your wallet.


  2. No, but he will need photo ID either a driving licence or an NI Electoral Identity card, a passport will suffice just aswell

  3. You dont need a passport to travel from Wales to NI by sea but airlines have their own rules and are very strict now on security. A photo citizen card may not be acceptable despite it  being a domestic flight. They want to be sure you are who you say you are and a passport may be their required form of ID. Phone BMI and ask for their policy or check their website to find out more. I wouldnt risk accepting and answer from a forum like this when it comes to a question like yours.
