  1. If your European ID is good for traveling abroad in Europe, it is certainly good for Switzerland too.

No need for a passport in that case.

The exchange rate is about 1 Euro to 1.60 Swiss Franc or 6.16 Euro for 10 Swiss Franc, but most people going to Switzerland mention the prices being high.

So the actual use of your money might be more like 1 to 1.

(And if you plan on that it will come as a surprise if the prices are not as high.)

I just looked on my Dutch European ID, and it states that next to the countries of the European Union, I can travel with it to Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Turkey, Iceland and Switzerland.

I think that your card might have a list like that, either printed on it or on the website about it (maybe where you need to go for applications?)

  2. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union so you definitely need a passport.

Willeke had a good answer about euros and Swiss francs, so I don´t say anything about that.

Switzerland is a pretty expensive country, where rich foreign people move to avoid taxes.

Switzerland is a very beautiful and interesting country, though, so I wish you a very nice stay if you are planning to go there. I´m sure it will be worth it!

  3. I would think that the EU id is fine.  But, when traveling between countries, you should keep your passport handy anyways.

Use the web site below for exchanging currency.
