Do you need a passport when you are driving from Canada to The United States?

I am driving from Regina Saskatchewan to the states for a day do i require a passport or just your birth certificate & drivers license

  1. You don't require much ID to get back in Canada.

    But the US wants passport ID or other suitable ID. Driver's licence should be OK for now, but take every other scrap of ID you have and get a passport ASAP.


  2. With the new regulations nobody enters the United States without passport.   Even the United States citizens are required to present their passport to enter into their own country.

  5. You don't need a passport when traveling by land or sea (until june 2009)

    You need a government issued photo ID such as a driver's license and birth certificate. You need a passport when traveling by air

    Edit: No you don't need a passport upon coming back by land (driving)

  6. If you are a Canadian citizen all you need is your government issued photo ID such as your provincial driver's license, and your birth certificate to prove nationality.  It is expected that we will need passports by the summer of 2009.
