  1. When you apply for a China visa, additional documents are required from April 14, 2008 on, which include return ticket and hotel reservation. Please refer to the following link for details.

    http://au.chineseembassy.org/eng/ls/t424...

Thus if you don't have a round-trip ticket, you cannot successfully get a China visa during the Olympic period.

  2. It seems backwards that you would need to buy roundtrip tickets and book hotel reservations before even knowing if you ARE approved for the visa.  Here's the solution I found:

Book a hostel on hostelworld (or a similar one).  You will pay 10% down, but you can pay $4.50 for insurance and then cancel later.

Talk to travel agencies about the flight.  Some agencies are able to reserve tickets without actually booking until you're approved.

    Good luck!

  3. You need both.  Proof of airfare in and out of the country and also hotel confirmations accounting for each and every day you are in the country.

Then you can apply for your visa.

    Good luck.

  4. To get into China you will need a visa.

To get a visa (tourist) nowadays, due to the games, you will need proof of a return ticket and a hotel booking. If you do not have a hotel booking you will need an invite letter from the person you are staying with.

  5. It depends on the type of visa.

The most common type of visa is the single-entry "L" tourist visa, usually only good for 30 days, though you can request a longer validity period. Your request may not always be granted, and in some cases, you may be asked to produce supporting documentation (such as a travel agent-issued itinerary or an airline ticket with a return date).

  6. There's a very detailed post on this forum. It'll answer all you questions and if not, just post a reply.

  7. this is gonna sound biased but ive been to many countries and its so true. If you are white and are dressed nice I have never once been asked to show proof  of a round trip ticket.  Its so true, only once has anyone asked where im going to leave , ay answer will do, oh im gonna go to thailand after and fly from there, its no big deal. sounds fishy but its true

granted, with the olympics ive heard many people are having alot of trouble so maybe just ignore verything i said but , from what ive heard everything will go back to normal after they are over

  8. yes, you need both. at present China Visa policy is changing frequently because of the Olympic Games.
