I'm about to send away for my provisional, but you have to take a theory before you can take your practical lessons, will I still need my provisional before I can do my theory test?

  1. Yes you need your provisional before you even set foot in the learner car and also when you take your theory test.

  2. You have to take your provisional licence and the paper bit with you to the theory test!!

  3. Yes, you need your provisional when booking your theory test.

You don't have to take your theory before starting practical lessons.

Dave J is correct, I accidentally clicked thumbs down, it was meant to be thumbs up.

  4. Dave J is 100% correct and as such I clicked thumbs up as Welsh lad missed it........

  5. You can take you theory test at any stage after you get you provisional and before you book your test.  Normally instructors will tell you to do lessons and at the same time revise for it, after 5 or 6 lessons book the test.  In Northern Ireland there is a months waiting list for the theory.

  6. you need one too be on the road anyway so yes,!!

  7. You are slightly misinformed. You don't have to take the theory BEFORE you take practical lessons, however, you DO need your licence to take your theory. :)
