Do you need a special license for using a old sailboat? In Pa?

My mom is giving my husband her father old sailboat from the 70's, it's in good shape but needs some love. Do you have to have a "special" or spefic license for operating a sail boat- my mother thought so. She said my grandfather had to take a sailing test and spend so much time on the water before getting his license.

No, just bring the registration up to date.

I'm not sure about PA but usually if the motor is above a certain horsepower, you may have to take some kind of test.  Usually it's something like 10 hp.
