Hi everybody I am looking at a bike for sale on craigslist its a 1994 model enduro dirt bike, but the owner does not have a title that is how he purchased it. He is providing a bill of sale, but I'm not sure about the title problem. Also I have found that a lot of older dirt bikes no longer have the title is that common? Please help me out I need to know if it would be a problem for a bike that old not to have a title.

  1. my advise is to get the VIN number off the frame neck and get that run thru the Dept. of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to insure it hasn't been reported as stolen... if that checks out okay, buying a used dirt bike without a title should be okay as long as you are only looking for an off road motorcycle (not wanting to make it into a street legal dual sport bike)...

the only issue you might run into is when you get ready to sell the bike... since you won't have a title for it either and others might be skeptical of buying like you are right now...

personally, I have purchased probably 20+ used dirt bikes without a title merely using this same process unless I was buying from someone I knew pretty well who went thru and did the same when they bought it used...

just be sure to keep the bill of sale just like you would keep the title ...
