I recently bought a Sabre 37" flat screen tv from a military base. I was wondering if I needed to connect an HDMI cable from my tv and my cable connection in order to receive tv channels in Hi Def

  1. HDMI is the easiest solution because it carries BOTH the audio and the video on a single cable. You'll find that HDMI cables can be relatively inexpensive, too -- around $20 should do it.

  2. hdmi displays in up to 1080p. component cables diplay up to 1080i. there is not a huge difference between the two so just get component cuz its cheaper. also u wont need hdmi for a sabre hdtv since its not the best brand of hdtv.

  3. no, you can get HD with component cables (I would suggest buying good Monster cables if you are going to use them), but a HDMI cable will work great too. Some say HDMI works better, but I don't use one with my HD cable and my 1080i is as crisp and clear as you can get. Keep in mind, you'll only need 1080p if you have BlueRay or PS3. Otherwise, you wont need an HDMI cable.

In order to get HD though you will need an HD receiver or an HD capable antenna/bunny ears. Your TV may have this receiver built into it though so check into your TV's features.

However, with an HD antenna you'll only get the local network HD channels (FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC, etc) and not the special stations like ESPN or movies. You'd need to upgrade to HD cable or HD satellite to get the rest of the HD channels.

Congrads on your purchase though. You are going to love HD!!
