Do you need an MBOX to run pro tools or can you use any USB mixer?

if i buy this mixer or something similar would i be able to use it with pro tools without an Mbox? if not then what software would it work with?

  1. That is a regular analog mixer and it will work with pro tools.  The tape output of the mixer can be wired to your sound card line input (blue connector).

Digidesign purposely created Pro Tools to work with it's own hardware.  Unfortunately, you can't run Pro Tools without an Mbox, DIGI002, and various other hardware devices.  Also if you are planning to use a mixing console with Pro Tools, it must be compatible with Pro Tools.  You can tell because it WILL say that it is.  It must be a USB to fully function together.  I run a Yamaha 02R.  But you'll need about $10 Grand to run that piece of equipment.  Just so you know, Pro Tools compatible consoles are going to be up in price, unless you can find a used one.
