Do you need community service hours to apply to a college or university? if so how many?

Colleges or university's don't care about community service hours. They care about:

-- why you might have engaged in community service (what motivated you, why you chose the organization or activity, etc.)

-- what you learned from such community service

-- why you think such service is important.

They don't care about hour numbers -- they care about the *why* and *what*: what you did and why you did it.

Most schools do not require you to have community service hours.  However, volunteering always looks great on your application.  You could volunteer at the Boys/Girls Club or at the hospital.
