  1. JUST DO IT!

Water Polo is a tough sport, you probably already know that.  You don't need experience to join a beginner team, but I will tell you from past experiences that it sure helps to be in good physical condition.  You may want to start sharpening your water skills, get to swimming a couple times a week until you feel very comfortable in the water.  Look up some skills you can practice in the water to get you better prepared.  BUY A WATERPOLO BALL!  And start doing some land skills with it.  You will learn a lot on the team, but I assure you that you need to being planting these skills into your self to harvest them when you will need them the most later!  Get to EGGBEATERING!

  2. Let's put it this way, you can't learn the sport if you don't join. I am a former NCAA water polo athlete, and I coached youth and high school water polo for three years, and over those years I always had a newbe. Just know that it will be difficult to learn the coordination required for this sport. It is physical, mentally and physically demanding, and requires both the skills of swimming and the power of passing, shooting, and legwork.

Eggbeatering will probably be the hardest skill for you to master, but once you do master it, you won't have to think about doing it--it just happens. This skill I would recommend practicing outside of practice--at home sitting on a chair or the edge of your bed. This skill can make or break your ability as a polo player--just like your swimming skills.

  3. No.  Actually, joining is about the ONLY way to get experience!
