i don't need a home phone, but need the internet, do you have to have phone service in order to have high speed internet?

  1. You dont need phone service, but you do need a phone line. Most homes have these built in.


  2. Depends on where you are and what companies offer services in your area.

    For instance here in the UK I have a mobile phone through T-Mobile (Nokia N80) which allows me to use the phone to pass the its internet connection through to my computers. This is not using it as a data modem, but uses the WAP/GPRS connection that you use when browsing the web on the mobile.

    Many suppliers allow you to use a PCMCIA device which you plug your sim card in and uses it in a similar way. Because of when I signed up for my contract I can have up to 30GB of data transfer a month for £7.99 (approx $15 US).

    3 Mobile now offer a similar system to allow users to have Internet connection without a land line. However such services are specific to mobile suppliers.

    But you may be able to find suppliers that offer alternative connections.

  3. Most cable tv providers have internet service, even satellite has internet.

    Also DSL utilizes the phone line to the house, but usually doesn't require for you to have an active phone line.

    Now verizon is distributing laser optic (Fios) internet.

    It's good, imo, that your going with the service offered through your phone company, because cable sucks...I should say the customer service portion of cable really sucks.

    you can get unwired modems which you connect to your laptop or desktop with cable wire that comes with it

    there are a few different types around these days

    so if I were you I do a bit of looking around and asking all companies what the latest and newest connections are available

    get DSL or cable, or even wifi....like clearwire.com if you can get it in your area!!! its the cheapest....like 16 dollars a month...
