I just ordered a magellan gps off Hsn and don't know anything about them. Do i need a service for it to give me directions? I'm going from NH to PA will my children and don't want to get lost. Also is this known as a decent brand because I got it on a special for $200.00,but retail at best buy for $400. Thanks!

  1. No. You don't need to pay for the service of receiving directions, apart from purchasing the GPS receiver itself. Most GPS manufacturers, however, do offer some add-on features which you can subscribe and pay. These are features such as live traffic information, live weather information, etc. You usually pay an annual fee for receiving this informaiton. Whether choose or not choose the extra features are entirely up to you. There will be information about how to get these extras in the manual, once you have received the GPS unit.

  2. Magellan is a nice brand but please do yourself a favor have some self-respect and stop shopping on HSN...

  3. No, it does not cost anything to have map service for simple GPS devices. However, if you want to upload the latest maps and terrain information from online, that will cost you about $80.
