Do you need to Follow Chess?
In this article, we are going to explain to you all the important chess terms that start with the word F. So sit back and relax because we are going to make you an expert in just about five minutes.
Lets start with the basics first. Ever heard of fast chess? It is exactly what it means. A form of chess in which the players are given less time to make their moves as compared to the standard time allocations in normal chess tournaments. Next one is a
file. You must have heard of that too. No, it is not the file in which you might put your papers in, unfortunately. But this term too, is quite basic. A file is a column on the chess board. Easy as a pie, isn’t it? Lets give you a piece of cake now. There
is a term in chess called the first-move advantage. This always lies with the white player because she gets to make the first move in any chess game as a rule. There is another rule, called the fifty-first rule. According to this, if neither players have been
able to make a capture nor there has been any pawn movement in the last fifty moves, then both the players have the right to claim a draw.
As you are doing great until now, lets familiarize you with some interesting terminologies. Family fork is a common term in chess. This is a move made by the knight in which it is targeting more than two pieces of the opponent. In case the opponent’s king
is also involved, the move is called the family check. After meeting the family, lets introduce you with a fish. A fish in chess is the player who has not mastered the game yet, and therefore, is a weak contestant. The fish is often called the duffer, patzer
or woodpusher as well.
There are some important sections of the chess board that a player must know in order to make the distinction. The term flank refers to the files on either side of the king and the queen. Those on the side of the queen are called the queenside while those
on the side of the king are called the kingside. An extension of the term flank, is the flank opening. This is an opening made by the white player which is based on one of the flanks.
Apart from important files, there are important square too. An essential square that every piece, specially the king should have, is a flight square. This is a name given to the square that acts as an escape route for the piece in case of an imminent or
current attack. Focal point is another square of interest to the chess players. This is the square upon which a player targets its attack either because of its strategic importance or because of the piece that stands on it.
The best chess term to our opinion is a fool’s mate. This is a checkmate that is reached in the shortest possible time, ending the game in a jiffy. As promised, we too have made you an expert in the f terminologies of chess in a jiffy. Now go ahead and practice
the terms in a conversation with friend.
