  1. no they have all the weight they need already. I love to use rooster tails.

  2. no you should cast them out and wait for some time before you begin to retrieve the lures.... most of the time with a spoon you will get a hit while it is dropping - I let it drop then reel in at a steady pace jerking it every now & then and stopping every now and then...

as for the rooster tail - I let it drop after I first cast it out to let it drop - the speed of your retrieve will allow it to sink more or cause it to come close to the surface...

If you add a weight you will cause the lures not to function as they were designed...

  3. No you don't need weights. You just cast them out and erratically retrieve them.Sometimes stopping completely, sometimes fast etc etc.

  4. I don't know much about the 'rooster tail' but the spoon, that's a different story. Most professional fishing guides call it an "idiot lure" because you can just cast it out- no weight- and reel it back in. The trick is to twitch your rod tip and use your reel and erratic actions. Depending on the water clarity, you'll want to use a silver or gold spoon. Click here:

(There's more variety if you visit a big tackle shop: Gold, Silver, Chartreuse, Pink, Rootbeer, White/Pearl, and Hammered Copper.) Hope this helps. Tight lines!! :D
