  1. Yep! I'm a paratrooper at the 82nd Airborne and I have buddies that are Rangers. Airborne chool is one of the many requirements for any spec. ops. (Special Operations) training. (i.e. Ranger or Special Forces)

To the guy above me...there are SEVERAL MOSes(Military Operatons Specialties) in the Army that don't require Airborne training. The majority of soldiers are NOT Airborne trained.

How to become an Army Ranger:

Step1.Search your heart and your psyche. Rangers are warriors. Rangers are trained to face highly dangerous and stressful combat actions. Ranger training will require the utmost in courage, physical stamina and self-discipline.

Step2.Develop your body - run for endurance, train with weights, become a proficient swimmer.

Step3.Keep yourself in top physical and mental condition.

Step4.Remember that good soldiers are intelligent soldiers.

    Step5.Secure the best education possible.

Step6.Familiarize yourself with military history, politics and international relations.

    Step7.Join the U.S. Army.

    Step8.Choose advanced infantry training.

    Step9.Become a dedicated, professional soldier.

Step10.Strive to exceed the expectations of your leaders.

Step11.Work diligently to improve your military skills, taking advantage of advanced training.

    Step12.Apply for paratrooper training.

Step13.Ask your commanding officers to endorse your application for Ranger training.

    Step14.Apply for Army Ranger training.

Step15.Understand you must pass the rugged requirements of the Army Physical Fitness Test, the Combat Water Survival Test and the six-day Ranger Assessment Phase before you begin actual Ranger training.

  2. Ranger tabbed and Ranger Regiment- 2 different animals.

Many soldiers who are tabbed couldn't make it in the Regiment.  RR is a way of life, Ranger school just gives you the tab.  Don't misunderstand, you're the man if you pass Ranger school but if you're not in the regiment, you're not living the Ranger life.

  3. Yes. Although almost every soldier (Army) has to go to airborne anyway. Now the military has Ranger and Special Operations Forces contracts so you are guaranteed the schools you want, you just have to pass.

  4. Yes.

  5. You must be airborne qualified.

Airborne school has been a prerequisite for Rangers since the 1970s.

  6. cameron is correct, to go through the school IE Ranger school you DO NOT have to be Airbore qualified. The majority of Soldiers that go through are, but if you are not your on detail.

To be in a Ranger Regiment, Yes you have to be Airborne. But it just is not a requirment to go through the school.

I know a few people that I was stationed with that were leg infantry not airborne that went and passed the school.

So Cameron, the guy above me gets it right, just here to prove he is right.

  7. No, but most are. When the training in ranger school calls for it, the airborne qualified guys will jump and the non-qualed guys will be inserted by Helicopter.

They Ain't Got No F--king Brains..."
