Question:

Do you need to be USFSA to participate in professional ice shows?

I was wondering if it is possible for ISI skaters to be considered for these shows.

(I am currently only 15 years old, and ISI freestyle 6 so this wouldn't be for two or so years at least.)

I am most interested in things like disney on ice, or any show like that.

I have student teaching experience, and have been in 5 of our rinks productions (two of which i have had specialty numbers in)

I was wondering the Age, level, and ISI or USFSA requirements for these types of things.

All details appreciated!

  1. I think you might have to be accepted for Disney on Ice but I'm not really sure. But if you can just go into it freely, then you might not have a problem.

You might want to consider USFSA, because that's the big time skaters, if your serious. In your case, if you want to be in Disney on Ice, you should really be part of the USFSA. It's really a good idea.

I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully I'll see you soon on Disney on Ice :)

  2. I don't know whether being a Junior is a big must for pro shows (most of the things the background skaters do in those shows is pretty simplistic to me), but the higher your evel, the better.

I don't think joining the USFSA would be hard. Even I could have joined and I was your age at the time, but I didn't.

As for HAVING to be in the USFSA to be on the company, I doubt it. Former mexican national champion Gladys Orozco was in the mexican release of High School Musical on Ice as one of the leads. Course, she was the senior national champion of a country for a few years, but it shows you don't HAVE to be in the USFSA to apply.

  3. Disney will most likely accept you if your really good, but if you just ok, then they would probably only acept you if you had a ISI or USFSA membership. USFSA is bigger and harder to get into, so if you decide to do a show, I would go with USFSA. Also, nowadays the younger, the better. 15 is a good age to start small pro shows. And I mean show that are held in a big arena, but a show that doesn't travel around. I would also think about at least trying USFSA because they have more competitions. But either membership, it'll always look good for the directors (if that makes sense) and everything will go on your resume, and colleges look some at extra activities like that! Here is a contact person who can guide you to an audition or something of that sort.

  4. The rink I grew up skating in had several skaters join the

show(s) and we were an ISI rink.

Membership and testing in both I would think would be an asset.

Keep in mind that skillwise, ISI FS 10 is harder than the USFS Senior Test!

I found this link for Bietak Productions-they do alot of cruise ship shows and Broadway on Ice

  5. Here is a snipit of the qualification's  and contact information  you need for Disney on Ice. The link is below. The second link is an article on what it's like to tour.

    Good Luck!

In order to qualify for consideration, you must be at a junior/senior level (USFSA), have strong edge skills and acting skills, and possess a high potential for teamwork. Performers are judged individually based on strength, ability, presentation, style, personality and overall attitude.

All of our skaters in the show must be at least 17 years of age and a High School graduate. We do accept portfolios and may request an audition prior to graduation. To begin the audition process, please send a portfolio including a resume, pictures and video.
