you dont have to be with ATT.  You can be whom ever you want to be with. I can tell you that by the time your pay all the taxes and surcharges that others charge you would be better off with AT&T.

i do not need to be an ATT phone line. and in fact i am not an ATT phone line, I am a person...

but no, you do not have to use ATT as your POTS phone service if you live in an area where ATT is the RBOC. check your local newspapers, or phone books for other CLECs in the area that resell the service, or if you have highspeed internet you can look into VoIP services, like those provided by your local cable company..
