Do you need to be a certain size to ride a 17 hand horse?

There is a beautiful horse at my barn, that I am going to start attending next week. Do you need to be a certain hight to ride a 17h horse? i am 5' 5" is that enough? or does that even matter?????

  1. as long as you think you would be comfortable, long legged horses usually are slower but have big strides and can be bouncy or smooth. but if your instructor says yes go for it.


  2. It really doesnt matter.  Just make sure you mount up from the left side.

  3. No not really,, BUT ..........!!

    But you'll have to use Lots of Leg to keep him Up and On the bridle, I like bigger horses They make me work much harder,

    Because I am only 5'2' ,,

    I really have use lots of leg and my seat has to really drive him up on the bridle and not let him get on the forehand...

    Are you ridding English ?
