I want to work on a cruise ship when I'm older but hate water on my face therefore I can't dive and am not an amazingly strong swimmer so I was put off. Is it necessary nowadays?

  1. Not necessary with all of the floatation devices that are available.  Just think of all the passengers that do not know how to swim or physically can't...

I'm sure there isn't a hiring policy on swimming ability, or a test...

    Good luck!

  2. Probably in case of emergency but maybe they wouldn't ask if you just wanted to be an entertainer. Depends on the job.

  3. It would be a good idea to know how to swim.  I would think it would be a requirement for anyone who works near or on water that they would know to swim.  I would require it if I was an employer.

  4. I've worked on ships for 5 years.  Half the crew can't swim.  Swimming and working on a cruise ship are not even related.

What will really put you off is not water in your face, its the long hours and low wages you'll receive.

    Good luck!

  5. no, you can be one of those really bad comedians, cruise lines are always looking for monkeys to entertain the passengers
