  1. You will need to be able to sketch ideas on the back of an envelope to be any kind of engineer, often it's the easiest way to describe what you need, particularly if you are dealing with projects in other countries.

    Other than that most drawings / blueprints are 'technical drawings' (1st, 3rd Angle and Isometric projections) and once you understand how to visualise your project from one, drawing them comes relatively easily.

    Most drawings used in production now are done using computer aided design (CAD) systems and if you can use a computer (which you obviously can!) it's fairly straightforward.


  2. ruler and a pencil is all that is necessary, and a functional calculator.

  3. Drawing actual designs is a little outdated. Although you will have to do some engineering drawings by hand, more important is to be able to use a computer to do your designs and drawings.
