  1. I have never been christened so the Catholic Priest had to write to Rome and ask for special dispensation for me to become a Godmother.

  2. yes, well i did last year, i was godparent and the vicar asked if i had been christened, luckily i was, he said i i wasn't then i couldn't be a godparent

  3. no you do not need to be

  4. You should be baptised to be a godparent, although, which arm of the Christian church is generally not important.  Th important thing is that the godparent will support the child's faith as he or she grows.

BTW - in reference to vegan Mom's comment - Christened is a commonly used term for baptism in the UK.

  5. Your best bet would be to speak with the pastor/priest. Traditionally, the godparent(s) is/are to help raise the child in the faith. It was/is pertinent to my husband and me that our daughter's godparents are very faithful and live the faith. We wanted at least one of our siblings and my sister was the only one who was qualified. (My brother would have been good, too, but he is in the Army; his family more or less lives in Texas when they are not with their family in Belize and my brother is currently stationed in Washington State.) Also, a seminary classmate and close friend of my husband's is the other godparent.

Personally, I don't like the term "christened". It sounds as though it's to be made a Christian, which is not what the baptism is about. If you've no clue about infant baptism, and you're not even baptised your self, you either need to reconsider being a godparent or educate your self and consider being baptised.

  6. Catholic Church, one of them has to have been christened.

  7. It depends. I got my daughter christened in a church and her godaprents had to be christened but my sil had her daughter a naming service ina small chapel and they didnt have to be christened

  8. Nope, you can be baptized (or Christianed) by anyone who is in that specific religion.
