  4. Everyone who drives has to be insured. common sense would tell you that a learner is a bigger risk than anyone else for having an accident.

    Driving schools carry their own insurance for you to learn.

  8. yes of course you do if your signed up with a driving school your automatically insured if your having private instructions you need to get your own insurance.

    If you're learning to drive in a driving school car, their insurance covers you.

    If you're learning to drive in your parents' or friend's car, they will need to add you to their insurance.  (expensive)

    If you're learning to drive in your own car, you will need to get your own insurance.  (mega-expensive)

  12. My son just got his learner's permit.  I asked my insurance agent the same question.  He said he does not need to be added until he actually gets his license.

You need to be insured in any car you dirve.  So, if you are learning, the car owner is supposed to have insurance that covers you.  It's the car that's insured.  How the policy is written says what is covered.  You should be on the policy as soon as they let you.  The premiums will skyrocket.
