Do you need to break it in?

I just got a 15" L5 kicker and i was wondering how do i break them in, why do i have to break them in and finally do i really have to break them in? i will be running 600 watts rms into them. once there broken in.

  2. keep the gains low for the first couple of days. yes you should break them in cause if you start poundin early you might damage the subs.

  3. No, you do not need to break in your subs.

    There is no way you are going to damage your sub by not breaking it in.  Breaking in is only done to help enhance the sound of the sub.  When you break in a sub some of the characteristics of the sub change.  This may slightly change the sound of the sub.

    Sometimes it is recommended to keep the volume low for the first couple of days but this has nothing to do with damaging your sub.  This is to make sure that all your settings are correct, most importantly being the gain.  This way you will not hurt anything if you installed something wrong.

    If you really want to break in a sub all you have to do is fully excurde the sub.  The link below tells you the proper way to break in a sub.  But if you are only worried about damaging your sub I can tell you it is safe to turn the volume up.
