Do you need to go to uni to be a psychologist or can u just go to tafe ??

  1. Not too sure about Australia but in the United States and Canada virtually every jurisdiction and state a licensed psychologist is required to have obtained academic doctoral degrees, which are usually either a Ph.D or Psy.D.

    In the United States there are also other requirements such as one must be licensed by the state and to be eligible you must have an advanced degree, two years of supervised experience and passing written and verbal exams. Psychologists in the U.S. must also complete one-year of a clinical internship, either pre-doctoral or post-doctoral. After receiving a Ph.D. a psychologist must then spend an additional years working under the supervision of a licensed psychologist as a 'resident psychologist' before they are eligible to take the written licensing exam.

    Obviously this may differ from Australia, but this is the case in the U.S. and Canada.
