Do you need to have a license to carry a handgun for protection while hunting and using a rifle?

if you want to carry a handgun I know you need a license to carry, but do you also need a license to carry while using it for protection during hunting

Not if your state allows you to carry a handgun while hunting

Florida does but some states do not allow handgun hunting and therefore would not allow handguns on you while hunting

This will vary from state to state. Please check with your state authorities before open carrying in to the woods you could wind up in jail. I also don't think " Well the guy on Yahoo Answers said I could" is a valid defense myself.

This would depend on the state you live in. I like to hunt in Montana where it is legal to bring a sidearm. Check with your local fish and game.

No you do not. The only thing you need protection from is an animal. But the Parks and Wildlife Associations say it is legal so it is ok.

In PA you need a handgun hunting permit. It something like $5.00 and it's good for a couple years.

It really depends on where you live, Some states do allow it and others say no, you'd have to call your local game warden office or look up your areas parks and wildlife department to be sure. It'll be a pretty hefty fine and you might loose your firearm if you carry it and aren't allowed to

What are you protecting yourself from that the rifle you are carrying isn't sufficient?  Check your state laws.  If it allows hunting with a handgun, then you're most likely in the clear.
