I decided to recycle and get my family involved and hopefully as well as my community. But I'm only 15 years old and I want know more about recycling to help our enviroment. I brought blue bags but do I need to have a recycle bin as well? Also can someone tell me if do I have to seperate all the materials or can they seperate them for me? I need a little help with this.

  1. It is really good that you are interested in recyling. The idea about splitting the items is that it is easier for people to see what needs to be recycled. I have bags labelled paper, plastic and cans dotted around my house due to having a teenage son. Having the bags does make it easier. For instance keeping a bag by the front door for when you get junk mail obviously taking care to remove your address if it is on it.

You can recycle almost anything: we have a box for used batteries in our kitchen because there is not a facility within our local area. Check your local council and see what is available.  Have fun and good luck with your quest.

  2. Yes, I guess so. If the recycle bin reads 'paper' , then only put the paper in. Do note that some materials cannot be recycled and that you should not put them into the wrong bins. I doubt that they will separate it for you.

  3. Recycling is really local.  Your best bet is to contact your waste disposal company.  If they do the recycling they can provide direction on what, where, when and how.  If they don't do it they should be able to tell you who does.  If you can't find anyone locally, talk to your teachers, tell them you want to start recycling at school.  Let the teachers guide you.  The science and biology teachers are usually your best bet.

  4. Recycling isn't bad, but don't get too obsessive with it or it will control your life. Please be careful that you don't get caught up in the crazy "global warming" mindset. This is why people try to tell other people what to do and how to live. Please.

  5. Go Paul! That was an awesome answer!

That really answers your question for you.

I am 14 years old and I really want to get involved in recycling too.  I just don't know how either.

My and your best bet is to ask your science teacher (if she/he is nice) about it.  I know my science teacher would be THRILLED and ECSTATIC!!!
