  1. It depends on local law.

Some homeschooling laws require that parent to be around.  Some just require some type of adult supervision.

In any event there are social laws governing children under 16 and a lack of responsible supervision can get a family into trouble.

  2. It would help since home schooling means that a parent is the primary instructor, or guide.

Depending on the ages of the children it may also be a legal issue; check your states guidelines, and requirements.

I can understand high school students doing independent study, and not needing a parent to be at home at all times, but parents still need to be available when needed.

For safety reasons, younger children should simply never be left alone for extended periods of time; home schooled, or not.

  3. for virtual homeschool, it would seem you need a virtual parent

  4. The rules regarding home education vary from state to state, so you would have to check the laws that relate to your own location.

In New Hampshire where I live, homeschooling education needs to be provided by a parent unless approved otherwise.  Alternate approvals are rare in practice.

These are the New Hampshire rules, and more details can be found at the source link.

        193-A:4 Home Education; Defined. –

        I. Instruction shall be deemed home education if it consists of instruction in science, mathematics, language, government, history, health, reading, writing, spelling, the history of the constitutions of New Hampshire and the United States, and an exposure to and appreciation of art and music. Home education shall be provided by a parent for his own child, unless the provider is as otherwise agreed upon by the appropriate parties named in paragraph II.

II. The department of education, resident district superintendent, or a nonpublic school shall work with parents upon request in meeting the requirements of this section.

  5. Hi! I'm a homeschooled student and the answer is, absolutely not. When you're kids are younger (say under 10) you should probably be home most of the time. But when your kids get older, they'll be able to do their school on their own, pretty much.

  6. We are a two income family.  We do, however, spend much time together.  Much of that time is spent on schoolwork.

My husband's employer allows our teen son to come there for supervision by my husband and to help with the boredom for our son who is a very social person.

    It works for us.

  7. No, you shouldn't need one, though it's a good idea to check up on them from time to time.
