  1. uhh no!

If you work better on your own and you are motivated then home school may be just right for you!

I'm not familiar with ECOT but don't worry to much about them because if you are for some reason denied then you can always look into another curriculum

  2. No. Most parents that have kids who have bad grades decide to homeschool their kids and most of these kids wind up with good grades. You don't need to apply to be accepted to homeschool. Everyone gets accepted to homeschool if you have the right resources to get to that area.

  3. I think you may not be clear on the concept of homeschooling.  You do not get into homeschooling; it is a choice that parents make for their children.  Once the choice has been made, you should follow your state's guidelines in order to legally homeschool.  The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has information on how to legally homeschool in every state and on how to get started in homeschooling; the link is below:

    http://www.hslda.org/

Additionally ECOT (Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow) is not a homeschool--it is an online public community school.  You do your work at home, but the public school standards that apply to those who attend a brick and mortar school will also apply to you.  If ECOT is the way you choose to pursue your public school education, I am sure that help is available for you with any subjects you find difficult.  The link to ECOT is below:

    http://www.ecotohio.org/

If your parents allow you to be homeschooled; there are numerous curricula they can choose from--Christian and secular.  If your parents need further information, please tell them to e-mail me, and I will be happy to help in any way I can..

    I hope this is helpful.

  4. 80% will get you Through.  Hope you do better, you have the Internet.

  5. It is legal to homeschool as long as someone is willing to teach you or you teach yourself, and you'll need one of your parents signature to help you homeschool. All you gotta do if find somewhere on the internet that says something about "department of public instruction" try googling it and somewhere on their websight they have where they send you the papers you fill out and then you send them into your school you are in now going to. then they notify you when they recieved the papers then your kinda on your own!! But you better make sure you actually do learn because You will later have to take a bunch of tests to recieve your GED, it's like a highschool deploma but not quite as good.

  6. For those who are curious... I searched on "ECOT homeschool" and discovered that it is "Electronic Classrooms of Tomorrow" and it is an online public school.  An online public school and homeschool are two very different things.

    TR:

    You said:

"Tell me--when you go to the doctor, do you demand a particular diagnosis and treatment?"

Yes. Twice. Once for myself and once for my son.  I was correct both times.  Many organizations (such as AARP & the AMA) and even some Doctors recommend that one take responsibility for their own health care - including doing their own research, questioning diagnosis, getting multiple opinions, etc.

    You also said:

"Life isn't a situation where you get to pick and choose your work conditions."

Again I disagree.  One can choose for whom they work or do not work.  One can choose to change jobs if the environment isn't right for them.  I have always carefully chosen my own work conditions (even if that means searching for a new job) and it has worked out pretty well.

Parents, in the U.S., do have the right to choose the best education possible for their children - whatever that might be.

BabyBlu... Look at the ECOT link below... you will find admissions information.

  7. To be homeschooled there is no grade requirement. There is only if your parents are willing to put in the time and effort to homeschool you. You need to find out what the requirements are for your state then fill out the required forms and go for it.

    Good luck

  8. What is ECOT?

Home schooling means that your parents notify your school of their intend to home school you; you choose your books, and other materials together, and they function as your primary instructors.

Your previous grades are of no consequence.

Homeschooling is simply an alternative way of pursuing an education outside the confines of a conventional school.

You cannot "fail" home schooling since you stick with a subject until you master it, no matter how long, or short that may take; that is what working at your own pace is all about.

  9. ECOT is a public school.  You can attend it if you live in Ohio.  You only need to fill out some paperwork to attend it.  If you are having problems, contact the teachers and they will help you so that you can pass the classes.

  10. Tell me--when you go to the doctor, do you demand a particular diagnosis and treatment?

    No?

Then why do you think you're able to choose the best education for yourself?

Life isn't a situation where you get to pick and choose your work conditions.  After you get out of school, do you expect to tell your employers that you work best at your own pace--or do you expect them to set deadlines and that you'll have to meet them more often than not?

I know some pretty good students who do ECOT, and I know at least one horrible one who's doing it also.  It may be a good idea for you--are your parents/guardians in agreement, and are they able to supervise your work habits and offer assistance if needed?  If not, then you need to grow and become more flexible in your work habits--talk to teachers and counselors in your school and figure out how to get yourself to work to deadline.  That's a very important life skill, if you don't develop it you'll have trouble not only with bosses but with the IRS and your bank.

  11. i had F's and i homeschool now

  12. As long as your parents accept the decision, you can homeschool.

    ECOT is public school.

  13. ECOT is NOT homeschooling!

  14. Busy Mom is correct. Now all your parent(s) need is a high school diploma. They can both teach you and grade not only your tests, they can give your end of year tests as well.  So please don't cry.  Did you know that the public schools kicked Albert Einstein out and called him stupid and unteachable? He gave us the theory of relativity among other things. He wasn't stupid .....his teachers were. And most any local high school can be contacted about letting you graduate with their graduating class. If one says no, just keep contacting high schools till you find one with common sense.

I homeschooled my daughter, and then we went to a Christian school where she got her diploma. They gave her a list of colleges that would gladly take her.  The list she was given had many reputable colleges and tec colleges; both in and out of the U.S. Among those listed were all but one of the top 10 colleges here.  Her grades were in the top 10 % from grade one. She looked forward to her tests. She actually watched the mail box and asked each day about when the tests would arrive. And....NO I didn't help her on the tests, except two times. One question made no sense the way it was worded, plus, where you were supposed to mark your answers , had no answers to mark.  Example: What is the sum of 12 hours worth of horses?   Example of answers:

a.........O     B......O      C......O    Just how do you answer that?

The second time the last test question had no place to make an answer, because someone had torn the  answer sheets answer section for the question out. There was no place to mark a answer.    That's the only help she got on any test.

The plus side of home schooling:

    1.  One on one teaching on all subjects.

    2. Less stress on a student if there are learning problems.

    3. No medical problems from trying to drag 25 to 45 pounds

of heavy books from class to class, and up and down

stairs, or back and forth to and from the house to bus to

        school building.

    4. Less chance of shootings, stabbings and such.

    5. No bullies,  be they teachers, faculty, or students.

    6. No punishments for having to go to scheduled doctors

        visits.

    7. No worries about bus wrecks, or lock downs.

8.You can work at your own pace, and you don't have to  put

up with teachers who have other agendas, such as s*x

        with your son or daughter.

    9. You don't have to worry about teachers who, if you child is

a slow learner, they won't shove them in a corner, label

them stupid, and refuse to make any effort to teach them.

    10. Yes, homeschoolers are socialized....to be respectful and

kind. Many public schools cater to special students, as in

rich, popular, s*x appeal gets attention, the rest of the

students are treated like second rate  citizens.

    11. In a "public school" setting, your son or daughter may

a "g*y" teacher, who teaches your son or daughter that

male to female dating/marriage is wrong and being "g*y"

is ok. Or that we climbed out of the slime of the earth

    12.  WAKE UP PEOPLE:  EVER SINCE PRAYER WAS

TAKEN OUT OF  THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM, THE

SCHOOL SYSTEM HAS GONE DOWN HILL IN EVERY

SENSE OF THE WORD.  ....ACTUALLY, THE ENTIRE

UNITED STATES HAS GONE DOWN HILL AS WELL.

AND "BABY" YOU DON'T NEED A PHD OR BE A

BRAIN SURGEN TO PROVE IT  IS 100% TRUE

           EITHER.

GO  BACK AND READ OLD NEWSPAPERS FROM

THE 1940'S, THEN THE 1950'S. SKIP 10 YEARS AT

A TIME AND READ ABOUT SCHOOL PROBLEMS.

NOW STARTING AROUND 1970 OR JUST BEFORE,

READ AND SEE HOW MUCH SCHOOL "HAS

           GOTTEN OUT OF HAND".

Ok, so I am yelling......but if this country refuses  to get

back on it's knees and start praying.....global warming

will only  be a small problem compared to what else we

will be  facing if we keep on the way we are.

  15. Do you really know what it means to homeschool? No, I'm not trying to get at you. It's just that, as a homeschooler, one does not 'get into' homeschooling or anything else for that matter.

The *only* person who has to decide whether or not you will be allowed to start homeschooling is your mum...and the *only* person in this world who can prevent you from homeschooling is...dadada...your mum. So stop worrying, there is absolutely no reason for you to be crying about this every night!

The only way it can possibly matter is if your mum is worried that you won't do any better at home - if so, talk to her; get her to go through the research that clearly demonstrates it is possible for one to be an abysmal scholar in mass schooling and an excellent scholar once in an environment that is more suited to you, your personality, your way of learning etc etc...and, failing that, flatter her!

I've never heard of ECOT; if that is some sort of cyber-school, correspondence school etc, what you're talking about doing is not really homeschooling, it is distance education (DE).

Will bad grades in youre past matter to a potential cyberschool (or any other distance education provider)? I very much doubt it.

People use DE for a million different reasons incl. having excellent grades at school and therefore  wanting to push themselves harder...and some opt to do it because they get abysmal grades in a conventional school. The point is any alternative education provider will be completely aware of all that; the reasons why some kids don't do well in the mass-schooling market (and often it is the brightest kids who, in a conventional school, don't necessarily do as well as they might); they will understand that different kids need different things from their education and just because conventional school didn't give you a whole raft of '1's doesn't mean their programme(s) can't or won't. And, if nothing else, the fact that your parents are prepared to pay their fees will probably go a long way to help, lol.

Even if the worst happens and, for whatever reason, you don't get accepted by this ECOT (whatever they are, lol) does NOT mean you will have to stay at school. Always remember: it is your parents who decide how and where you're educated...and there is nothing at all to stop them pulling you out of school to homeschool independently of any education provider.

You do *NOT* have to necessarily be signed up with any 'school' in order to do homeschooling. In fact, homeschooling proper means you are *not* signed up with any cyber school, correspondence courses, alternative educational providers etc.

Being a homeschooler proper means it is you, your books and your mum, with no involvement or input from anyone else, so don't allow yourself to get too hung up on whether or not some outside agency (ECOT) wants to accept you or not. And definitely don't get so hung up on whether or not they accept you that it makes you cry every night!!! It isn't worth you being made to feel that bad over what ECOT may or may not do because there are still plenty of ways you can homeschool without them (and their ilk).

I've been home-educated all my life (except for 5 weeks!) and I do perfectly well without any input from schools, cyber schools, correspondence schools, curricula, syllabii, lesson plans etc etc. Ultimately when it comes to home-education, all that stuff is window dressing (lol!), not worth crying over window dressing!!

Ultimately, all you need to successfully make a go at homeschooling is a supportive mum and a library card.

And, ultimately, all you need to be allowed to homeschool is a supportive mum.

  16. I'm not quite sure what you mean, as I've never heard of ECOT, but I'm homeschooled myself and there's no 'grade requirement'.   To be homeschooled means you learn at home, and teach yourself.   It's easy to start, just buy the material you want to learn, sit down, and study.   Just learn what you want, how you want, at your own pace.

  17. Homeschooling can help if you are struggling in school. But its not a way out. And it can be hard work. There isnt a grade requirement to be homeschooled either. But you should start by checking out your states laws on homeschooling.

  18. There isn't a grade requirement in home school. You take your work at your pace. You can study what you want (you still have to learn math and English, c**p like that), whether you're interested in diving or archeology or anything.

I'm guessing that ECOT is some kind of college. Colleges are actively recruiting home schooled people because they know how to think.

My suggestion is that you switch to home school and just don't worry.

  19. To simply homeschool no you do not need good grades. If you are a self motivated student or work better in a different environment your grades will most likely improve.

    Have hope!
