  1. I agree with cutie. I don't think anyone would laugh at you for trying to speak Spanish. Most people are respectful when it comes to that... But yeah, you should know it since you are going to a remote place.

Many people in Lima know English because they learn it at school and it's also a requirement when you wanna graduate from any university; but still, you should be prepared to find many who won't understand a word of what you are saying.

It's always good to know some Spanish because you never know if there'll be an emergency and you'll need to explain yourself properly.

Try to learn important and simple phrases, take a dictionary, and/or find a tourist guide like someone said.

  2. OMG! Yes! You have to know how to order food and get directions to the bathroom at the very least. The people there will not laugh at you, rather they will welcome you for trying to communicate in their language. Go to http://www.studyspanish.com its a free website to learn spanish, and book your travel at http://www.wiitravel.com click on "book travel" to access the reservations page.

  3. You should know a bit, please and thank you go a long way.  That being said, you could point and have where you're going written in Spanish.

  4. you might want to learn a few important phrases but otherwise a guide will work. I love peru its amazing!

  5. no - get a guide
