Do you need to seal clay pavers?

I built a patio of clay pavers using loose laid sand over gravel. Do I need to use any form of sealer on these pavers for any reason or should I just leave them alone?

Thanks.

  1. Yes,  you should use a sealer for  multiple reasons.  That is what the experts say not just the Yahoo! experts.. lol!

Sealing your pavements will help protect it, clean it and maintain its beauty for much longer. Sealing gives your pavers a protective coating, so if you stain it with oil or grease, it is much easier to remove than it would be if your pavers were not sealed.

  2. only to avoid staining them, depends how porous they are- in doors, yes, seal them.

  3. Clay pavers usually do not need to be sealed.  Call the manufacturer of the pavers for information specific to their product.  In some cases using a sealer that is not recommended by the manufacturer may void the pavers' warranty.  Another good source of information is the Brick Industry Association.  Visit www.bia.org.
