Question:

Do you need to send in your real driver's license as proof of identity to get a new social security card?

Due to a name change I need to get a new corrected social security card. They require original documents of identification, and one says that they MUST see your driver's license. I don't have a state-issued non-driver ID card or a passport and I will not pay to get one. They say in the directions that they cannot accept photocopied documents and that they will return all documents to you. But how can I send in my driver's license and still drive?

  1. i wouldn't "send" it in!!!

you should be able to find a place where the'll do it right there in front of you!!

do you have your drivers license number memorized??

  2. Never mail identification.

  3. My wife just did the same thing just a colored copy front and back

  4. I don't think you have to send it any where. Just stop in to the local social security office. That's what I did.

  5. All you have to do is go to your local Social Security office and turn in all your documents and show your drivers license.
