Do you need to update windows security updates if you install another internet security software?

I have windows vista OS and have installed Trend Internet Security 2008. I switched off the windows firewall, but windows keeps prompting me to install other components.

Obviously. this also depends upon what Windows is prompting you to install, but any updates / patches MUST be applied which will enhance your security and stability.

100% yes, you have to have every critical updates installed for the platform that you are using.   If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, you need SP 3 installed and all the most recent updates.  

Go to your tray, start and open Microsoft Windows updates. Microsoft will scan your system and install every critical update that you need.

Or you can go to your tray open start, open control panel, open security and check off automatic updates.  

Every security software company will tell you even with their software you must have Microsoft critical updates installed.
