Do you need to watch Naruto before watching Naruto Shippuden?

Question

I want to start watching Naruto or Naruto Shippuden. I just don't know which to watch first /or to not watch one and just watch the other.. I was just wondering if Naruto Shippuden is a sequel/follow up to regular Naruto, I'm completely clueless when it comes to this... Please help..If Naruto Shippuden isn't a sequel to Naruto can you tell me which one you think is better? Thanks. ^_~
