  1. well i am not a tellemark expert but i guess that you do  but more just so that your skiis base not become shot  but not nearly as much as a normal ski because you slide more than carve. -^^-

  2. Yes. Telemark skis require the same waxing and tuning that a pair of alpine skis require. Depending on what conditions I have skied on, I usually wax about once every six-to-ten days. I have the edges done usually every fifteen days and will have a full tune and base work done once a season.

I do know some people who ski on wider backcountry touring skis. (Yes...even at lift-serviced resorts.) While similar to telemark skis, there are significant differences. Some, but not all, of these types of skis do have waxless bases.

The best way to tell if you need to wax is to look at your base. If it is a smooth base, there is a good chance those need wax. If your skis have scales, then it's a good bet those have a waxless base.

Tell me what model ski you have and I can most likely give you a definite answer.

  3. If its speed you want, yes, a good base wax through the middle part of the ski and wax the tip and tail with green hard wax.  Super,  I taught telemarking and used this mix all the time and it was so good.

  4. To correct another comment: Waxless bases are not really waxless. All skis benefit from wax (fills the micro pores, makes bases stonger, stops water from getting in, reduces icing, and improves glide).  Waxless only refers to the center section of a cross country ski that needs grip wax. If you have scales you do not need grip wax, and should wax the smooth areas in the front and back. Use a wipe on wax in the scales to reduce icing.
