Unless your wearing a scuba mask with compressed air I fail to see how you WOULDN'T breathe in pollution.

What kind of mask are you talking about?  If your breathing in air, the pollution is in the air.  Mask or not.

Most motorcycle riding masks are nothing more than fashion pieces and will do pretty much nothing to keep you from breathing pollutant particles, if you really want to ride protected from pollution you would need some industrial grade breathing mask that protects you from floating particles. The kind with two big filters on the side, the stuff you see the paint booth guys wearing at your local auto collision shop. A bit of an extreme look, but if you wanna be protected, that would be the way to go.

Seriously if you want to wear a mask I guess some sort of surgical mask would help with pollutants in the air.

i wear a bandanna as a mask to avoid debris, as far as pollution? na, saves me from having to stop for smoke breaks as often, just suck it up
