Do you normally get a medal for completing a half-marathon?

Has anyone done one and received one, or not as the case may be. I know it is common for a full marathon but wondered for the half.

  1. Some of the larger half marathons do offer finisher medals.

If it will be offered it will be mentioned on the entry form.

If it will not be offered it will not be mentioned on the entry form.

  2. yes you usually do.  I got one from the cleveland marathon

  3. Every single one (20) I have run gives you a 'finishers' medal.

I have found that shorter races like 10K, & 5K usually don't offer a medal.  The entrance fees are lower, so that's part of the reason.

Finishing strong is it's own best medal...

  4. definitely. i've run at least 13 half marathons and all have given medals at the finish.

check on the race's website. it will say if they give medals.

  5. Most 1/2 marathon finishers get medals, depending where the race is.  Some have cotton t-shirts or tech shirts with registration (some only on early registration, to guarantee shirt).  When you register on-line, most will tell you the info. on the website, it will tell you what you get (finishing medal/shirt/goody bag/etc.) Plus at the end of the race there is usually food and drinks to replenish yourself.  I have about 12 1/2 marathon medals.  So it nice to have that when you complete your race.

  6. Just check out the FAQ's on the race's website or contact the race director. The majority of the races out there will indeed offer a medal.

  7. Yes and a Tee shirt.

  8. I would say that 8 out of 10 you will get a medal, and most of the other will give you some sort of momento.

From experience, this is goverened by a 2 things, the more runners the more chance of a medal and the more you pay to enter the more chance of a medal.

Remember that the race organisers have to run at a slight profit or break even - not a loss, so the more cash they get the more goodies they give away at the end, (entryr fees and race sponsors sponsorship cash), sponsors often give away free products - at the weekend for example I got free Red Bull and Free addidas deodorant sample, plus a medal.

Some races give away T shirts as well

In the Great North Run the goodies are quite good - high profile so lots of sponsors and Ive had typically things like bags of Jelly babies (the best), bottles of water, medal, T shirt, foil blanket, joint ache relief gel and muscle rub, and leaflets for other events. By contrast another half I ran we got a printed mug and the opportunity to buy a cup of tea ina village hall (much smaller event)

So yes, it is common to get a medal and nearly always some sort of momento (the same goes for the marathon - the bigger and higher profile the better the goodies)

  9. I think everyone who finishes get a medal.
