  1. I think it should be played over the intercom and kids should stand with their hands on their heart.  Those that refuse especially in public schools, need to be kicked out and let some other country pay for their education.   Then they should say the pledge of allegiance, and those that have a problem with God and not say "under God", and just move on.

  2. If patriotism has to be inculcated and reinforced every day by singing, the national anthem  and taking a pledge- God help the nation. You don't have to wear it on your sleeve . Next you will be saying, you have to beat up a black or a Muslim every day and bayonet the Iranians.

  3. I think the national anthem should be sung at every gathering in this nation and it should be mandatory in our schools

along with the pledge of alliegence

anyone that has a problem with either inside the borders of this country has no business being in this country

  4. A very very good question. We used to have it at our time around the 1970s .. why was it stopped? AND most of all WHEN was it stopped??

it promoted a very very emotional feeling of pride in our country..... WHERE has that pride gone?? sadly its gone the uncle sam ways.... with all due respect to uncle sam.

we were recently at this multiplex where after a long time i was thrilled to be asked to stand up as the National anthem was about to start... that was at the start of the film.  A group of young NRIs who were just behind us were still talking and when i turned around and asked them to show some respect to the flag .... all smirked ... till i asked them IF they showed the same attitude when they went back to their chosen  land!!! that quietened them down.

But it left me feeling sad and shaking my head.

After the release of Munnabhai .... it gives me great joy to see more youngsters joining in to sing the National Anthem at the multiples...... Bol India ... there is STILL HOPE.

  5. yikes, that's a very tough song to pull off,,,how about the pledge of allegiance

  6. make up your mind between the POA and national anthem, they can't do both in the morning. how about music class for the national anthem

  7. As an American I believe strongly in teaching our children to love their country and to work hard to make it a fair, secure and healthy country for everyone to enjoy their lives and their liberties guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.

I do think the Pledge of Allegiance should be recited in schools each morning before classes begin, I also think to National Anthem should be played over the PA system.

If any child, or their parents, don't want to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, then they can stand quietly and allow everyone else to do so. By the same token, those who wish to drop the "under god" from the Pledge of Allegiance, should recite the original version and simply pause while those who wish to use the addended version say those two words.

America is unique in that if we work together we can all have our cake and eat it too. The Constitution protects the rights and opinions of everyone....liberal, conservative and Middle of the Roaders alike.

  8. Yes,i am agree, the National Anthem should be sung every day not only in schools but also in colleges. So that the must be aware about the respect we give to our Nation, our Mother and to our Flag.

  9. ya the national anthem should  sing every morning in schools because it makes feeling  of pride n respect for india  in the heart of students n it may be happend among students one of them become pride of india.

  10. Why is this so important to you? I think if people are going to have "national pride" they already do. Some song ain't gonna make it so.

  11. Ever thought about changing the National Anthem, Mabee America the Beautiful. It is easier to sing and a little easier to remember.

Plus it has images that make a little more sense to those who have not studied history. It describes our beautiful country.

The Star Spangled Banner is wonderful song, but I think, America the beautiful would just get little more recognition.

  12. I wholeheartedly agree! When I attended school, it was mandatory that we said the pledge of allegiance to the flag with our hands over our hearts each and every morning. We all knew the national anthem from music class--even if some just pantomimed. The anthem could be played over the PA sometime during the school day.

  13. Ofcourse 'YES' followed with a 'BROTHERHOOD CREED'. You will positively see a Sea of change among children.  It will also dilute the poison of vicious dogmas fed at different points.

  14. Nope.

  15. I know this is going to get a lot of thumbs down....but right now there's not much to be proud of.

A lot of people in the country are depressed and tired of the things that have been going on in our government for the last 6 years.

Yes.....I'm a Democrat but truthfully I'm ready for another administration from any Party.

  16. I used to live right next door to a Catholic elementary school in California.

Every schoolday began with an outdoor assembly, during which a patriotic song was sung. Now that I think about it, I don't think it it was ever The Star Spangled Banner, because it is too hard to sing I think.

Both my gf's brother and nephew attended that school for 9 years, and they both tell me that the assempbly is a matter of rote, not patriotism.

Although I have to say my own heart fluttered on the days when I heard what ought to be the natinal anthem: "This Land is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie.

Anyway, anyone who has ever attended a professional sporting event can tell  you that merely hearing the national anthem does not have a magical effect on anyone except that it means the game is about to start.

Don't forget:  "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel".

  17. people express pride differently.  There's those that show it openly, and then those, like myself, who just know they're not traitors, but don't go around saying "Woooooo!!! look at me!!! im totally for this country!!!"  i respect both views.  I do agree though, that people do need to stand in respect for the country itself.  I don't agree on the fact that you want to make people sing and stand, it's called free speech.  Plus, you don't want me singing the national anthem, im not a great singer.

  18. I'm so proud to see, based on the answers here, that our country is definitely heading in the right direction.  I guess there will be no lack of applications for jobs as "internment" camp guards and "interrogators" when the time comes, eh?

I'd vote that each child have the choice.:))  How's that for democratic?

BTW, NASCAR fan, sung is spelled with a "u".  And the pride began diminishing with all the revelations about 9-11 and the Iraq "war"/cash cow for cheney, the bush crime family and the NWO   :))

  19. I don't think that civic pride is something that can or should be forced in anyone.  Teach kids what is great about our country and our heritage, but this IS supposed to be a FREE country, in which we can choose to participate or not.  That's one of the great things about it.

  20. Absolutely, we should be teaching our children to be proud to be Americans and teach them patriotism. Along with this children should be taught American History.

  21. Libs have no pride, but they also tend to go to dance recitals more than football games.

  22. this anthem is so ugly and it is such a shame now to be an american in the world

discretion would be better for once
